As a solo designer and writer, I developed a Twine prototype for an interactive visual novel - "Questing for Castleton" - in which players played through a "choose your adventure" narrative with branches that would be determined based on random number generation. (Players are encouraged to play with a physical d20 to add tangible weight to these decisions.)
